Supplies for Den Meetings

You’ll want to collect some supplies for your den. Things such as crayons, markers, pencils, scissors and rulers are needed for many of our Cub Scout activities. During the back to school sales and clearance sales, I always grab some extras for the den. For example, I bought 24-packs of Crayola crayons for a quarter. I got 8 boxes and used the extras for the den.

Here’s a list of some of the items that I bought on sale to add to my den bin:

  • Construction paper
  • Index cards
  • Scissors
  • Crayons
  • Pencils
  • Rulers
  • Paper clips
  • Ink pens
  • Colored pencils
  • Ruled paper
  • Copier paper

When you can purchase a 12 pack of pencils for 19 cents and a pack of index cards for 39 cents, you can have a well-stocked supply bin without spending a lot of money.

Another good source of inexpensive supplies is garage sales. You might find a half-empty box of unused envelopes for a dime. Grab them and throw them in the bin!

blue and gold centerpieces

My “secret weapon” for awesome deals is my local Goodwill Outlet Store.  Yes, a Goodwill Outlet store!  At my store, items are sold by the pound–79 cents a pound here.  You would be amazed at what you can find there including brand new stuff.

In fact, I found two of these Cub Scout centerpieces that were brand new and still in the unopened package.  The two of them together weighed less than a pound.

So, watch for those good office and school supply deals!

Yours in Scouting,
Sherry

Here is the workbook. I went through everything and put down things every rank needs, plus shared resources in our trailer (or what needs to be there anyway).

If you have any edits or suggestions, please let me know. Also, note I don’t have Lion stuff yet, and that is because my council is not participating in the pilot.

I am putting together a list of all supplies needed for each rank so we can build a den patrol box, like a boy scout troop has. When I am done, if you’re interested, I can send it to you. 🙂

I was wondering if you had an ideas for Pack Meetings for the boys?

    1. Hi! Here’s a link to some suggestions for pack meetings: Pack Meeting Ideas. You might also want to check out the meeting plans that BSA has published. Hope this helps!

      Sheila:
In addition to Sherry’s suggestions, other excellent sources for Pack meeting ideas are at your local district’s monthly Roundtable meetings, and online at Baloo’s Bugle.
