Wolf Cub Scout Requirements: Recycling Game

Wolf Adventure – Council Fire 6a says “Learn about the three R’s of recycling: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Discover a way to do each of these at home, at school, or in your community.

In addition to discussing what can be recycled and how to recycle in your neighborhood, we played this fun recycling bin race game.  Kids love to play games more than they love discussions, so the game broke the monotony of the den meeting.

Before the meeting, make three signs, one each for “Paper”, “Plastic” and “Glass”.  Hang them in different parts of your meeting room.

Gather the boys in one area.  Tell them “You are going to be items that can be recycled, and you have to get to the correct recycling bin as quickly as possible.”

Call out the items below one at a time. Boys have to run and stand under the sign that corresponds to which recycling bin the item belongs to.

  • Milk jug
  • Pickle jar
  • Junk mail
  • Jelly jar
  • Water bottle
  • Newspaper
  • Ketchup bottle
  • Cereal box
  • Olive jar
  • Magazines

The boys had a blast trying to get to the right bin as fast as they could!  What recycling games has your den or pack played?
