Faux Campfire Awards Ceremony
As I’ve mentioned before, we have been a “handshake and a baggie” awards pack in the past, and we’re trying to break free of that. So, we wanted to think of a fun way to give the boys their awards at our Blue and Gold banquet.
Our first attempt at a new way to present awards was the frisbee awards. They were so popular with the boys, and we knew we would have to come up with an awesome follow-up.
Our Blue and Gold banquet had a campfire theme. One of our decorations was this faux campfire. We thought about trying to turn their awards into s’mores, but we opted for “hobo meal” awards instead! We wrapped each boy’s awards in aluminum foil and wrote their names on the outside. All of the hobo meals were placed around our campfire.
Our Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster came up with the idea of pretending the meals were really hot, and they had a blast with it! We didn’t fool those smart Tigers, but our Wolves tossed those meals around to keep from burning their fingers. 🙂

We are doing a 100’ slip n slide(100’roll of construction plastic and fortunately we have a big hill at our charter organization.) The scouts will line up and get called one by one, slide down the slip n slide and receive their adventures and advancement neckerchiefs at the bottom. Love the campfire idea!

I have watched these videos and was curious… Do your den leaders list out each award the scouts are getting? I know a lot of times the list is really long so I was just curious because I didn’t see that part in the videos

Actually, our Cubmaster does announce all of the awards. It does take some time. One of the things we’ve done in the past is ask that the audience hold their applause until all of the boys in a den have received their awards. That helps some. And our Cubmaster has gotten good at reading really fast! 🙂

My pack is also a “handshake and baggie” pack. Thanks to your inspiration, at our Robot themed Blue & Gold dinner, we gave out our awards using a robot “claw” toy. The boys seemed to like this much better than the handshake. Super simple but it did add a little something to our ceremony. Thanks for all your ideas.
