Cub Scout Position Trained Requirements

Have you wondered exactly what you have to do to wear the “Trained” badge that you see on some Cub Scout leaders' left sleeve?

Since the online training has changed, what exactly do you need to take to ensure that you're fully trained?

To answer these questions, the Boy Scouts of America has published a document with the requirements.

The Cub Scout Position Trained Requirements document has information for these positions:

  • Cubmasters
  • Assistant Cubmasters
  • Den Leaders
  • Committee Chairmen
  • Committee Members

The document divides the lessons into three groups:

  1. Lessons that should be taken before the first meeting
  2. Lessons that should be completed during the first 30 days
  3. Lessons that must be completed to be considered position trainedtrained-patch

The nice thing about this chart is that it lists how long each online segment will last.  If you only have 10 minutes, you can find a lesson that takes that amount of time or less.

Click on this link to go directly to the document.  You can then download or print it.

Don't forget that you need to take Youth Protection Training to be a BSA registered volunteer for any position.

Have you completed the training for your position?

I got it from the Scouting.org site. Since the Boy Scout and Varsity Scout leader training isn't available through Scouting U yet, I don't think a chart like this exists yet. Here's a link to a chart that includes Cub Scouting, Venturing, Sea Scouting and Exploring. Training Requirements

Here's a chart that shows all leader training requirements. All Training Requirements This one shows requirement equivalents for online and in person classes. Hope this helps!

Very nice... I've been wanting to do this for our JSN nights and new leaders so they have more info regarding time input for training. Thanks again...
