Cub Scout Bobcat Requirements: Balloon Bust Game

Cub Scout Bobcat balloon bust game

Don't you just love those cute little Tigers?  They are adorable!  But then you try to teach them the Cub Scout Bobcat requirements.  Between the Scouts asking when they're going home and if they're getting a snack, it's hard to keep their attention!

We do have to remember they're first graders, so it's up to us to find fun ways for them to learn the important Bobcat requirements such as the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.

One of the parents I met at our Cub Scout day camp suggested this Bobcat Balloon Bust game.  And it is perfect for our little Cub Scouts!

Prior to the meeting, write each of the Bobcat requirements on slips of paper.  Insert one requirement into each balloon and blow them up.  The requirements are:

  1. Say the Scout Oath with help
  2. Say the Scout Law with help
  3. Say the Cub Scout Motto
  4. Show the Cub Scout Sign
  5. Show the Cub Scout Handshake
  6. Show the Cub Scout Salute

During the meeting, have the kids take turns popping a balloon.  Then they must do the requirement that's in the balloon.

Hang the review pages where the kids can see them.  Their friends (and parents) can also help them out.

If you have a large den, you may want to divide the Scouts into smaller groups for this activity so that they won't have to wait very long for their turn to pop a balloon.  Remember, they are little kids, so patience isn't always a strength of theirs!

A word of caution.  Let your parents know ahead of time that this will be the activity.

Some of the little kids might be afraid of balloons or of the loud noise they'll make when they're popped.

Also, you may have a child in your den who has a latex allergy.

What activities have you used to help teach the Bobcat requirements?  Leave us a comment to share your ideas.

Yours in Scouting,
Sherry

Love this idea and it would typically be lots of fun. Just check with the parents before doing anything with balloons. I have a kid in our tiger den very afraid of balloons.

That's a great idea!! And it reminded me that there are folks who have latex allergies, so I'm going to add that into the post. Thanks for reading!
