Ugly Pumpkin Skit

The first one, the Ugly Pumpkin Skit, comes from Scoutorama. All you need is a “Pumpkin Patch” sign and 8 to 12 Scouts.

You need 8 to 10 kids to be pumpkins and 2 kids to be shoppers. If you have less than 12, combine some of the pumpkin lines.

Have the pumpkins sit on the floor with their arms wrapped around their knees. On one side of the group, place the “Pumpkin Patch” sign.

Here's the script for this Cub Scout skit.

Pumpkin 1: Man I HATE Halloween!
Pumpkin 2: Yeah, me too.
Pumpkin 3: Why – what's the matter with Halloween?
Pumpkin 4: You guys break the news to the new guy….
Pumpkin 5: First, they cut off your vine!
(Pumpkin 3 looks worried)
Pumpkin 6: Yeah, then they cut your head open!
(Pumpkin 3 grabs his head)
Pumpkin 7: and pull out your guts!
(Pumpkin 3 grabs his stomach)
Pumpkin 8: then they cut you up with a saw!
Pumpkin 9: or a knife!
Pumpkin 10: or a drill!
Pumpkin 11: THEN they put a candle in you to light you up!
Pumpkin 12: and leave you on the porch to rot for months!!
Pumpkin 3 (looking scared to death): NO WAY! How do we get out of it?
Pumpkin 4: QUIET EVERYONE – I know a way – just be as UGLY as possible, then they won't pick you!
ALL Pumpkins: OK, let's do that!

(Shoppers enter the stage)

All pumpkins: Sshhhhh – here come some people, everyone – BE UGLY!

(The two people walk around the pumpkin patch shopping for a pumpkin)

Shopper 1: Man, all of these pumpkins are TOO ugly for Halloween!
Shopper 2: Yeah, these pumpkins are REALLY ugly!
Shopper 1: Even too ugly for a jack-o-lantern!
Shopper 2: Yeah, let's go look somewhere else!

(All the pumpkins are giving each other the thumbs up and a WHEW!)

Then Shopper 1 turns around and says: WAIT! They will be perfect for PUMPKIN PIE!

All the pumpkins scream: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Trick or Treat Drawing Story

I put together a quick video of this Trick or Treat Drawing Story that was featured in the September 2005 issue of Baloo's Bugle. It comes from the Baltimore Area Council. You'll find the script below the video.

halloween story for cub scouts with red play button

Here is the script for this Cub Scout skit.  You'll say the lines in black.  The actions you'll take are in red.

Two little ghosts passed down the street.

(Draw line from top left corner of smile)

Stopped at this house for trick or treat.

(Draw first upper tooth)

Then walked on to another door.

(Add line to next tooth)

Got candy, and went for more.

(Draw second upper tooth and line to top right corner of smile)

They turned around and started back

(Draw from bottom right corner of smile to first bottom tooth)

And stopped again to fill their sack.

(Draw first bottom tooth)

They went to one last house right here.

(Draw line to second bottom tooth and draw tooth)

Then hurried on, for home was near.

(Draw line from second bottom tooth and connect with left corner of smile)

They hadn’t noticed in the sky, that witches’ hats were blowing by.

(Draw three triangles)

Or seen the moon so round and bright, that shone above to light the night.

(Draw circle around everything)

But most of all they hadn’t seen, this pumpkin face for Halloween. A stem right here, and then he’s done! A Jack-o-lantern’s lots of fun.

(Put stem on pumpkin)

Twelve Days of Halloween

And of course, we need a Cub Scout Halloween song. Check this one out! It's also courtesy of the Baltimore Area Council via the September 2006 Baloo's Bugle.

The Twelve Days of Halloween
Tune: The Twelve Days of Christmas

On the first day of Halloween
My mother gave to me
An owl in an old dead tree.
On the second day of Halloween

The Dead End House

visiting haunted house

The Dead End House is an audience participation Cub Scout skit that comes to us from Pack 114.

Divide your pack into 6 groups. Tell the Scouts that each group will be given a word. When they hear the word in the story, they will make the sound that's assigned to the group.

HAUNTED: This group says, “How-ooooooo”
WITCH: This group says, “Hee, hee, hee”
BLACK CAT: This group says, “Meow”
GHOST: This group says, “Boo!”
CUB SCOUT: This group says, “We're not afraid”
LEADER: This group says, “Only an hour a week”

Begin to read the story, but pause for a couple of seconds as you say the bolded words.

At the edge of town on the end of a dead end street sat the town's HAUNTED house. Many believed a WITCH lived there, but the only living thing ever seen around the place was a scrawny BLACK CAT.

Some folks claimed to have seen a shadowy GHOST peering through the windows, but no one could prove it.

Now, a den of CUB SCOUTS held their regular meetings at their LEADER'S house, right next to the HAUNTED house. When the CUB SCOUTS arrived for their last den meeting in October, they found a note from their den LEADER on the door.

It said, “I'll be back soon. Wait in the yard.” The CUB SCOUTS looked at the HAUNTED house next door, hesitated only a minute, then started a frenzied game of tag.

Dusk fell and the wind picked up, but the CUB SCOUTS didn't notice. Their LEADER still hadn't arrived home. They kept playing, running closer and closer to the HAUNTED house.

All of a sudden, the BLACK CAT brushed up against a CUB SCOUT who shrieked. Mysteriously, a GHOST appeared at the window, and the door creaked open.

A menacing WITCH moaned and waved to the CUB SCOUTS to enter, then disappeared. The CUB SCOUTS fell into a trance and entered the HAUNTED house.

The WITCH'S moaning sound filled the HAUNTED house and seemed to draw the CUB SCOUTS toward it. The floor creaked as they tiptoed through the house.

One CUB SCOUT stepped on the tail of the BLACK CAT. The GHOST floated between the boys, leaving a chill as it passed. Down a long, dark hall they went, following the WITCH'S moans.

The CUB SCOUTS reached the last door at the end of the hallway. Shivering, they held hands, wishing their den LEADER would come to get them. The BLACK CAT arched its back, hissed, and ran off.

The GHOST flew back down the hallway. The CUB SCOUTS closed their eyes, ready to meet their fate. The WITCH'S moaning suddenly stopped as a gust of wind pushed open the door.

There in the brightly-lit room, the CUB SCOUTS saw their den LEADER. “Happy Halloween,” she cackled as the CUB SCOUTS dissolved in nervous laughter.

The Ghost with the Bloody Finger

This skit was published in the September 2011 issue of Baloo's Bugle.

The great thing about this Cub Scout skit is its flexibility with the number of participants. You need a narrator, a ghost, and a Cub Scout.

You can use as many of the following characters as you want. If you only have 4 or 5 Cubs, use only that many. If you have more than 12, pair them up so that you have 2 pumpkins, 2 spiders, etc.

Jack-o-lantern/Pumpkin
Spider
Vampire
Black Cat
Skeleton
Werewolf
Bat
Frankenstein
Mummy
Zombie
Owl
Witch/Warlock

Narrator: One night a ghost was out walking, and he met a jack-o-lantern.
Ghost: “I am the ghost with the bloody finger!”
Jack-o-lantern: Screams, and runs away.
Narrator: “Next the ghost met a spider.”
Ghost: “I am the ghost with the bloody finger!”
Spider: Screams, and runs away.
Narrator: “Next the ghost met vampire.”
Ghost: “I am the ghost with the bloody finger!”
Vampire: Screams, and runs away.

Continue for as many characters as you need.

Narrator: “Then the ghost met a Cub Scout.”
Ghost: “I am the ghost with the bloody finger!”
Cub Scout: “Well, put a band-aid on it!”

Hope you've enjoyed these!  I would love to hear about your favorite Cub Scout skit that you do during the Halloween season, so leave a comment below to let us know!

Don't forget that now girls can be in Cub Scouts. References to male Cub Scouts should be updated to include female ones. :)

We did the ugly pumpkin skit with a mix of tigers, wolves, and bears this weekend at our district Sppokaree. It was super funny and easy to do.
