Cub Scout Activities: Scout Oath and Law Puzzle Game

Cub Scout Promise Puzzle

Two of the requirements for the Bobcat Badge are to say the Scout Oath with help if needed and to say the Scout Law with help if needed.  Over time, the Scouts will memorize both of these.

To help with this, I created an Oath and Law puzzle.  Not only can this activity be used to help the Scouts earn their Bobcat rank, it can also be used as a review for the older Scouts.

I wrote out the Scout Oath and Scout Law on a piece of poster board then cut them up into phrases.  Simply jumble up the phrases, and have the Scouts put them back in order.

If you're a leader in your pack, hang on to the supplies (puzzle pieces) for Cub Scout activities like this one so that you can share them with new Tiger den leaders.  Many new leaders are a little lost about what to do, so having ready-made activities really helps them!

What activities do you use to teach the Scout Oath and the Scout Law?

Yours in Scouting,
Sherry

I put each of the 12 points of the Scout Law on a craft stick (Popsicle stick). Boys will drop them on the table like pick up sticks and line them up in order. When they first start and for very young scouts we start with a poster board for them to look at to help them. After a while we take it down and see if they can do it without looking. You can even make a race out of it. The Oath, I write one line at a time on large strips of paper. Put the strips of paper in a container at one end and line scouts up a distance away at a start line (you want a set of strips of paper for each team of scouts you have... if you have 2 teams, then 2 sets...). On go the first scout runs to the container and finds what should be the first line and returns with it to tag the next scout who then runs down to find line #2.... and so on..... The team has to have all of the papers laid out in the correct order to win the relay.

I appreciate your site and available PDF files of the cub scout books. My grandson has just joined the cubs, age 7 in first grade. His father, my youngest son, only 39, just passed away in December 2013. My older son is trying to take over and help Benjamin be in cub scouts. I bought the uniform and Tiger Cub book for him so I am happy that I can see the information my self, while Benjamin and Uncle Bill are using his copy of the handbook. I think being in the boy scouts and helping each other will help all of us to cope with our terrible loss. Thank-you. Patricia

Patricia, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know this is a very difficult time for your family. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help Uncle Bill and Benjamin.

Wow this is an awesome blog. Thank you very much for posting everything. I have a son that will be a Wolf this fall 2013. When he was a Tiger we had a leader that lacked organization so my Husband ( who also was in boy scouts) has signed up to the be the Den leader for Wolf this year and I will assist him. I love the ideas etc since this is my first child and first time in Cub Scouts. Keep all the ideas flowing. I really enjoy all of them.
